Our Sprint retailer had specific requirements for a kiosk design to best work for their retail and service set up. It was necessary to keep the kiosk design universally approvable, and follow Sprint sanctioned guidelines.
The design needs included:
Working hand in hand with the customer we were able to take the design already approved by Sprint and customize it to fulfill these needs, without altering the fundamentally approved design, or adding build time to the kiosk itself. A goal was to keep the outer facade more or less unchanged, the design was already approved by Sprint, and more importantly, had been tested across multiple major mall management companies and found to be more or less universally approvable. Each management company has its own set of design guidelines, so maintaining a design that addresses the major points of most of the main players is key for a more streamlined and quicker mall approval. We were able to engineer a larger storage space in all cabinets by lowering the toekick from 8" to 6", freeing up 2" of vertical space. Additional storage was created by raising the workspace counter on the kiosk's merchandiser, and removing the drawers for open storage niches that could fit cash boxes specified by the client. The security aspect was handled with the addition of customized steel safe inserts, along with a permanently mounted customer-specified camera in the kiosk's pylon. To tackle the electrical portions of the requests, ventilation panels were added to all cabinets housing computer equipment. After going through the electrical needs of the kiosk itself, along with the equipment it was going to support, we devised an electrical and data package that could be included with the kiosk. Based on the cabinets being used in a design this package could be edited for any given kiosk configuration.
All updates still allowed for modularity in the kiosk size, and could be included regardless of if the kiosk was 10x12, or 10x15. With this customized design we worked together with our customer on more than a dozen kiosks.
